A life's journey.

I love to work away at my bench.  With just my thoughts, an inkling of an idea and see it emerge out of silver in front of me.  Commissions are different.  They are personal.  The initial idea is not my own.  I often start them with a little bit of trepidation.  The 'idea' runs rampant, it needs to be tamed somehow, reined in and coxed gently.  When they are finished, these projects are often the ones who's beauty startle me the most.  This one, for example, turned out to be a surprising symphony of silver, light and texture.

Longitude, Latitude cufflinks by Cari-Jane Hakes
These cuff link's startling graphicness surprised even me when I fished them out of the tumble polisher.  I just sat and grinned at them.  The patination feels like ink.  They have a delightful technological maleness to them.

They represent a life's journey, partially travelled, the story so far.  Happy Birthday Sir!
